TNA

I am very proud to have provided display bases for Team North America, and their Pre-heresy/Primarch Project for Gamesday Chicago ‘07.
Members of TNA contacted me in ‘06 about their secret project to showcase what American painters could do as a team. My job was to help tie them all together visually with unifying display plinths. A domestic hardwood was chosen: Claro Walnut. And chapter symbols or icons were laser-engraved onto the wood. All of the bases are magnetized for removal of the miniature.

The Primarch Project was a phenomenal hit at Gamesday. There is wide agreement that the level of high-quality competition was raised beyond all previous Golden Demons in the US. Of course, there were not enough trophies to go around, but most all the Primarchs received Honorable Mention. Chris Borer’s “Fulgrim” received Gold for 40K Single, and took the Slayer Sword for Best Of Show.

Dave Perrotta’s Gold-winning diorama for the Privateer Press painting competition at Gencon Indy 2006 was this wonderful scene of gobbers looking with dismay at the wreckage of a warjack that they have to fix.

The display base is made from Brazilian Ipe, and features a removable insert for the terrain. Dave routed lights to the lamp-post and batteries inside the base.

Ben Hardy’s entry for GD: Chicago 2006 was this wonderful Captain Phobor of his Iron Snakes chapter. The style is heavily influenced by Ancient Greek soldier themes.

Ben contracted me to make a base that was similar to the one on his Silver-winning “The Great Petrok - Iron Snakes Librarian” from GD Atlanta ‘05. The base is a 40mm turned plinth made of Cocobolo. Ben affixed the name plate.

Joel challenged me to make a “square hole” for a recessed 25mm x 50mm rectangular Rackham base. So I came up with this design, that assembles the base much like a tiny picture frame. As a side benefit, there is no exposed endgrain anywhere.

Joel gained an Honorable Mention for this mini at the KublaAwards in 2006.

The base is made from American Walnut. The base is magnetized for a recessed 25mm x 50mm rectangular cavalry base.

Laz won the Bronze KublaAward for Best Fantasy Single at Kublacon 2006 with this mini. The base was an emergency rush order, as Laz called me up the day before the con! Talk about last minute!

The base is made of Gabon (Black) Ebony, but with attractive striped grain patterns. It is recessed for a 40mm base and magnetized.
